Why

This site is inspired by:

Representing Your Town

I'm from the hills of Ithaca, New York and represent it to the fullest every day of the week. Given what a tremendous responsibility this can be, it sometimes helps to have a ridiculously huge website, so that people don't have to worry about whether we're still holding it down and staying sentimental to the core - they know that no matter what happens we're still from that place where we drive fast, barbecue in gorges all day, and work in lit-up 70's-style buildings at night.

Haters

Let's be honest - haters are everywhere these days. Some of my friends still compete relentlessly in just about everything, so I am forced to do it too, to fit in. The problem is that as soon as they consequently get their world rocked in, they turn immediately into full-time haters. So I guess this site goes out to my friends who thought that I couldn't program the equivalent of their website in like 6 hours - here's yet another action item for your hating todo list.

Tribute

More importantly, when you wander around and encounter so many people and things, you every so often just want to step back and give thanks to the ones that have brought you particular meaning. Making this site made me reflect a lot on what was important, and helped me really understand the relevance that all the things shown here hold for me. Doing so under such a coherent framework also helps you recognize patterns in your own interests that you otherwise might not notice. Most of all, you just want to acknowledge things sometimes, to thank them for existing and being part of your life.

Creative Outlet

Since my work is sometimes too technical to fully express my intense passion for art that lurks deep behind my cold exterior, web design lets one revel in emotive self-expression in a medium that is familiar and easy. Computers also let you redo the image until you get it right, so it is a less frustrating version of aesthetics than pottery.

Psychobabble

Turning awareness to reflect upon itself magnifies its development. Self-reflection is more durably recorded on an external medium, in which the imprint depicts incomplete areas and inspires further progress.

Sentimental

I am pretty much sentimental at all times, and to me a webpage is just a nice implementation of a scrapbook. Nobody in a paper scrapbook ever gets to see it, and they can't reminisce with you. You can share a webpage with anyone who shared your experiences or is interested in your ideas, and they can go at their own pace, focusing on the things that interest them. I guess you could just make a scrapbook, but then it would just be a stand-alone creation disconnected from all the information on your subjects that is already out there. Sometimes you can learn a lot while making these connections. Generally it's important to me to commemorate this great time of life, and I can't think of a better format.
